Facial Feminization Surgery Cost
|
Question: About how much does facial feminization sergury cost?
And to you have to have gotten a sex change before you can qualify for one?
Answer: There are lots of different procedures (with appropriately
different costs). The most common is probably dipiliation (hair removal), usually with laser. It will probably cost you $7000 by the time all is said and done.
"qualify"? You mean for insurance?
Well, if you were diagnosed as having sexual identification
disphoria (which is now recognized by the DSM), you might
get some insurance companies to pay for it. Without that
diagnosis, you won't get anywhere.
However, you can certainly pay for it yourself and I'm guessing
that most doctors doing that sort of thing will do it. They might
ask you why ... and you can say that you simply don't want to
put up with shaving any more!
Or you can tell them the truth. I really don't think they will
care as long as you are not trying to injure yourself.
There are other surguries that you probably cannot purchase
unless you are undergoing a sexual reassignment with a
reputable doctor such as playing around with cheek bones
and facial fat. The risks for these operations will make most
plastic surgeons not want to take them on without the AMA
considering it part of the "standard of care" for someone with
your condition - which means you need to be diagnosed with
the condition.
I would recommend that you be having the full treatment
of hormones (and hormone surpressors) before someone
wields the knife. Facial hair, though it won't disappear, will
usually become thinner and lighter without testosterone.
