Facelift Cost

Question: What's the most cost effective way to reface an older brick apartment building
I'm looking at purchasing a 4-unit multifamily building in East Cleveland that is all brick, but looks old and needs a major facelift on the front side for curb appeal. I'm curious what anyone knows about painting brick or possibly just cleaning it. Looking for a simple method at low cost to bring out the old charm without puting weeks of work and thousands into it
Answer: you can paint brick but it will soak up the paint like a sponge. You may want to contact a contractor and get an estimate on re pointing and cleaning the bricks first, it may not cost that much..otherwise, if you paint it, I would spray the brick with water first (pressure sprayer like you use with weed killer works well, just plain water) to get the brick wet before applying the paint, that way the bricks don't soak all the primer and paint up. you will save money this way.
I'm a bricklayer. There are products to clean old brick. Try a product named: Sureclean 600 it has some muriatic acid in it that will eat away all the old dirt and grime. Only takes a few hous to apply properly.
