Question: Eleven days after blepharoplasty (upper and lower, both eys), I have drooping
lower eyelid for right eye only. Eye looks like full of water or glassy in
appearance - not pleasant to look at. Is this to be expected, is this rare,
what should I do? Vision is affected also, mostly for the right eye.
Surgery was done by well-know physician who is in a city some distance from
me. Should I consult profession locally? If so, which speciality (plastic
surgeon or eye specialist?
Answer: You should call your surgeon & see if he knows someone locally that can see you.
The problem you describe is called ectropion & is not uncommon after lower eyelid
surgery. Usually it is temporary & resolves with eyelid massage, eye drops &
time. In some cases the eyelid needs to be stretched in an office visit with a
temporary suture. In some cases additional surgery is required some months after
the initial surgery but the likelihood of this is less if proper postoperative
care is performed. Thus, I again recommend that you contact your initial surgeon.
