Eyelid Surgery Costs

Question:

Can anyone tell me what to expect after cataract surgery? I had cataract surgery today on my right eye. I am so scared. My eyelid is sort of droopy still. I had the surgery about 8 hrs ago. When I make an effort to open my eye wider, I notice that I maybe have double vision and that things that should be in my right peripheral vision are seen w/o me focusing to the right. As if these objects are in my direct line of site. Also the Dr who operated stated that he wanted to refer me to a retina specialist because sometimes cataract can be "tricky." I do have a post op appt with my optometrist on tomorrow. Help, does anyone have any idea what's going on? And can you also tell me all its costs?

Answer:

Having worked with Opthalmologists and helping them do cataract surgery and seeing the patient post operatively I don't know that I have ever heard a patient state what you have stated. The suggestion that your Dr made about seeing a Retina Specialist has me puzzled. I don't see cataract surgery as being "tricky" except for the fact that it is hard for the Dr to see past the mature cataract prior to the cataract surgery to make sure that your retina is healthy therefore they can't be sure if your vision will improve with having the cataract surgery. It is quite normal for your eyelid to be droopy and for your vision to be somewhat blurry from the local anesthesia you had but other than that,if your retina is healthy you should be noticing some kind of improvement in your vison since the surgery. I don't know if the appointment with the Optometrist is going to be a worthwhile visit esp.since your Opthalmologist has already said he wants you to see a Retina Specialist. About the only thing the Optometrist will be able to tell you would possibly be why you are being refered to the Retina Specialist which I would have thought the Opthalmologist would have told you.
