Question: Has anyone got any ideas on how I can make a plain concrete patio look more
presentable? I did try staining it a few years back, but the stain peeled.

Answer: Perhaps you could use a concrete floor grinder, grind away the top surface,
exposing the aggregate to give a terrazzo look, then non-slip seal.
If the "stain" peeled then it was a coating not a penetrating sealer. I had
a great result with a steel trowelled concrete floor, by giving it an acid
etch, then splashing, flick brushing undiluted stain to give a Jackson
Pollock style, then sealing over with a diluted stain to create a
transparent coloured wash stain/sealer. The stains and sealer were all
solvent based (xylene).
Other options include: faux brick, stencil pattern appliqué, shot blasting,
or coarser finish by bush hammering.
