Chemical Peel Pricing

Question:

Do dermatologists give preferential scheduling to patients with higher priced procedures? Every time I try to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist, I usually end up having to wait two weeks for the next available appointment. With the doctors performing many other routine treatments such as chemical peels, botox/collagen injections, et al., one wonders if they give those folks preferential scheduling over regular patients. The money is easy, and I suppose that the procedures are fairly quick and high in profitability. Do you have any similar experiences or insight into this? Do dermatologists engage in this sort of practice?

Answer:

I see it differently - how in the world are you getting an appointment within a couple of weeks? I called for one last week and still have a month to go - and was real pleased to get in that soon. The last time I went in, this is what I witnessed. (I had an appointment.) All of these people were waiting at the door when the office opened. Turns out on one day a week, one of the dermatologist who is retiring lets people without appointments come in and sign in until his day if full. Then, the rest are turned away... The office staff didn't seem to care for this . I don't think any reputable doctor would schedule others ahead of you because of a more profitable procedure. Granted there are exceptions but most doctors are dedicated to their profession and don't play favorites. I'm seeing a dermatologist now for skin cancer (see what sun tans can do for you) My doctor has given me the best of treatment. I had surgery last Thursday to remove a quarter sized malignant spot from my right ear. At home, later on, she called to see how I was feeling. You are probably in an area where dermatologist's appointments are hard to get.
